If you’re looking for a space with a rich history and unique architectural features, check out this Downtown Los Angeles Venue – Kim Sing Theatre. The location was initially opened in 1926 as a vaudeville theatre. The venue changed over the years but kept its roots in theatre. Now it’s one of Downtown Los Angeles’ most unique venues! Kim Sing Theatre has retained some original details like the neon theater sign and bow truss ceilings.
After our first tour of the venue, we couldn’t wait to reimagine the space for our events! So, we decided to design a styled shoot to show our clients the possibilities that Kim Sing Theatre holds. We wanted to incorporate our sustainable and plant-based values into the creative project and worked with vendors who have similar values. One of the most eye-catching spaces within Kim Sing Theatre is the private courtyard oasis. The courtyard features its original neon sign displayed on an exposed brick wall with tropical palms lining the room. We wanted to highlight this space, so we used it first for a ceremony location before changing it over to a lounge area later in the afternoon. A mixture of brilliant white and vibrant colored flowers created the perfect modern tropical backdrop. We also added a collection of vintage rugs to pull the entire ceremony space together.
Kim Sing Theatre boasts a large living space adjacent to a spacious kitchen and serving station. The living room has an attention-grabbing light fixture with hanging lights that served as the perfect backdrop to the bar. Hanging flowers were added to the light fixture installation and created the perfect ambiance for cocktail hour. Vegan tray-passed hors d’oeuvres were provided by Pink Salt Cuisine. And while guests enjoyed tiki-inspired cocktails, they were able to search for their seats. Fresh coconuts were used to display guest names for the escort card display.
After the ceremony, the courtyard transitioned perfectly for an intimate dinner. The details were carefully curated to reflect a modern tropical ambiance that paired well with the Downtown Los Angeles venue.
We used a brightly patterned table linen as the anchor of the table design paired with modern white chairs. We used a natural wicker charger with muted pink dinnerware, and cut crystal glassware to complete the tabletop design. Fresh by Brandon created a foam-free floral design and included local products to minimize the carbon footprint of the event. Finally, we styled the couple’s cake on a bar cart adorned with floral arrangements matching the tabletop flowers.
We wanted to create a space where guests could relax throughout the evening, which also doubled as an eye-catching photo opportunity backdrop. Collective Rentals provided all of our specialty rentals including the entire lounge. Pieces were curated to reflect a tiki room lounge with a large trunk as a coffee table and stacked suitcases as a side table. The bamboo sofa and chairs completed our tropical lounge. The evening was capped off with frozen treats by Paleta Please, and was the perfect way to end the evening!
We love the versatility of Kim Sing Theatre. Stylistically, the spaces have enough character to enhance any event and enough subtle details to allow you to create any design. This downtown Los Angeles venue is also perfect for product launches, dinner parties, celebration events, and speaking engagements! If you’re on the hunt for a venue for your next event – we highly suggest Kim Sing Theatre. You won’t be disappointed!
