It’s no secret that wedding stationery is a key element in any wedding which is why this week, we’re introducing you to Kelly Zeller of Look Good on Paper Co. Kelly does an incredible job at creating all those swoon worthy paper details.

Wedding invitations are the first glimpse into a couple’s wedding day and is one of the first details to get finalized. A good invitation suite not only has all key details, but also reflects the couple’s color palette and wedding style. Kelly creates custom pieces to bring her client’s vision to life and provides them with pieces that are unique to them. Each piece is crafted with skill and a lot of love.

To say the least, Kelly is a superwoman! She is a loving mother and wife, has a degree in Biology and a masters in Education from UCLA, and creates some seriously stunning wedding stationery. Before diving into calligraphy, Kelly taught middle and high school Biology for eight years. About four years ago, while scrolling Instagram Kelly decided she wanted to learn calligraphy.

Once Kelly mastered the markers she turned to the nibs and taught herself pointed pen calligraphy. Over time, friends and family began asking her to make escort cards and address envelopes for their weddings and events. Kelly’s love for creating unique pieces for such an important day in peoples lives is what solidified her love of calligraphy. In 2017, Kelly designed and created all of the stationery and signage for her sister’s wedding. It was after that when Kelly decided to turn her skills into a business!

Tell us a little more about you, Kelly.

Hi there, I’m Kelly! I love my family, running, hot coffee, true crime podcasts, literally any dessert, and calligraphy (of course)! I’ve been married to my husband for 11 years and we have two kids. We have a son who is six and daughter who is four. I have been fortunate to be able to stay home with my children. All the while, I have been working to share my love for calligraphy and stationery design with others.

Whats your motivation behind Look Good on Paper Co.?

Building the Look Good on Paper Co. brand has been such a rewarding experience. I love sharing my creativity with people and helping translate their vision onto paper. Especially when it’s in a way that is even more amazing than they envisioned it. I also think it’s so important to show my children that trying something new can be scary and filled with mistakes. But being truly passionate about what you do and working hard is always something you can be proud of.

Do you have any sustainable practices at Look Good on Paper Co.?

No scrap of paper goes unused around here! I’ll save larger pieces and use them as backdrops for flatlay designs or turn them into mini envelopes. While I usually turn my smaller pieces into menus or place cards. I use the fronts and backs of everything and buy recycled materials whenever I can.

What do you love most about calligraphy / stationery?

The best part about calligraphy is that there is a fairly specific set of “rules” for writing. But there are also so many opportunities to creatively break those rules. It’s so much fun to see just how far you can push the limits of what letters should look like, while still having a piece that is legible and stylish. I absolutely love being able to capture completely different styles simply by changing a nib, switching my ink, or altering my letterforms. I also love playing with new and unexpected color combinations to create something that feels bright and fresh, while still having that “made by hand” feel to it.

Apart from Calligraphy, what are you passionate about?

I love spending time with my family, whether we’re off on an adventure or playing board games in our pajamas. Watching my kids learn and grow while helping to shape them into kind, independent humans is the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

What’s you favorite way to decompress at the end of the day?

Having a glass of wine (and probably a heaping bowl of ice cream) and watching an episode of some sort of drama with my husband is my favorite way to wind down at the end of a busy day.
